On 18th August 1944 the Penton Village Fund was started with a Trust "to be applied either on the cessation of hostilities between the British Empire and her Allies with Germany or as soon as circumstances will permit" with the responsibility to further "the maintenance & improvement of physical & mental training & recreation & social, moral & intellectual development through..reading & recreation rooms, library, lectures, classes for the benefit of the inhabitants of Penton Mewsey & hamlet of Penton Grafton".  Today this includes Penton Harroway and Penton Corner.

The Penton Village Fund (charity number 301915) owns the Penton Village Hall and the Recreation Ground at the heart of the villages.  It is managed by the Penton Recreational Committee (PRC) whose members are shown on the next page.  We lease parts of the Recreation Ground and pavilion to the Penton Cricket Club and Penton Tennis Club, both of whom have seats on the PRC.  We’ve also added a children’s playground, basketball hoop, football practice goal and other items to the ground.

During a typical year, PRC will organise recreational events such as:

·         Village Fete or Village Picnic (in alternate years)

·         Bonfire Night

·         Skittles

·         Quiz Evenings

·         Social Evenings with Racing or games

·         Live Music: “Rockin the Pentons”

… and handle over 400 bookings for the Village Hall for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and other family gatherings.  In the hall you’ll find hirers offering weekly sessions including:

·         Painting

·         Table Tennis

·         Amateur Dramatics (the Penton Players)

·         Fitness / Circuits

·         Pilates

·         Weight Watchers

·         Hatha Yoga

·         Sugarcraft

·         Puppy training

·         Flower arranging

There are noticeboards at the entrance to the Recreation Ground and at 5 other places around the Pentons.  Look at them regularly for updates on What’s On, or search online for Penton Village Hall to find our website. From there you can view event information, hall availability and request bookings.  If any of these activities interest you – or if you wish to start a session offering something different – don’t hesitate to contact us on 01264 513 313 or email
